WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN YOUR MODELLING CAREER IS ALMOST OVER?

Chop off your locks and model for the opposite gender. At least that’s what Elliott Sailors, a professional model who became iconic for her Bacardi billboard ads, did when her career options started drastically decreasing when she hit the age of 31. While hitting the thirties may mark the start of career success for some of the rest of us, in the world of modelling, youth always prevails as the preference of agencies. (image above via dailymail.co.uk)

Unless, of course, you’re a man. Male models, not being too restricted on the age factor, still have strong prospects at that age, hence Sailors’ switch from female bikini bombshell to androgynous pretty-boy. Chopping of her long blonde locks and emphasizing her already existent (and sometimes criticized about) angular masculine features with the help of a little makeup and a trendy haircut at the barbers.

Odd as her story is, Sailors’ isn’t the first one to take this route, with a few other models already paving the way for her epic move, such as Casey Legler, 35, the first woman to get into androgynous modelling as a male.

Having shed a few tears during her bold head-shearing session, we must say, Sailors’ embracing of her new hipster look totally trumps any memory of Britney’s diva-ish move. Besides, at least Sailors’ had a sane reason for doing it.

And yes, she was, and still is happily married.
